A rare architectural salvage find from a landmark building in Brockville, Ontario. These oversized glazed mercantile doors once graced the entrance of Gilmour & Company, a grocery business established by brothers William & Thomas Gilmour in 1870. The family operated from their newly built stone building until 1956, after which the doors were removed and repurposed—likely shortened at that time.
Each door features original plate glass with visible imperfections, a hallmark of early glass production. The painted wood frames and hardware bear the rich patina of 150+ years of use, with layers of wear that tell their story. The plate glass proudly reads Gilmour & Company, a rare survivor of 19th-century mercantile history.
While they show the ravages of age, these doors remain structurally sound and carry tremendous character. Perfectly suited for reuse as barn door sliders, interior partitions, or statement entryways, they bring authenticity and presence to any space.
