Late Victorian / Edwardian Painted Pine Mantel from the Frontenac Club, Kingston, ON
Late Victorian / Edwardian Painted Pine Mantel from the Frontenac Club, Kingston, ON
A wonderfully proportioned painted pine fireplace mantel said to be salvaged from the historic Frontenac Club in Kingston, Ontario. Dating to the late Victorian / early Edwardian period (c. 1895–1910), this surround features the clean, architectural lines typical of institutional interiors of the era—clubhouses, hotels, and fraternal halls where refinement was expressed through subtle geometry rather than ornate carving.
The elongated oval panels, roundels on the frieze corners, and tall recessed pilaster details give the piece a timeless presence. Its oversized scale and crisp symmetry make it an ideal focal point for modern heritage renovations, hospitality interiors, or a statement wall in a contemporary home.
Painted pine was commonly used in social club interiors of this period, and this example carries the quiet character of its history while remaining versatile for repainting or refinishing.
