Antique Cast Iron Spiral Staircase — Convent (circa 1910)
Antique Cast Iron Spiral Staircase — Convent (circa 1910)
An exceptional architectural relic from a Convent. This cast iron spiral staircase, dating to around 1910, once provided access to the choir loft within the convent’s chapel.
Industrial and ecclesiastic influences merge in its fan-cast treads and curved iron railings, exemplifying the craftsmanship and utility of late 19th–early 20th century design. Each tread features a radiating rib pattern for traction, rising gracefully around the original iron center column.
The staircase measures approximately 60" in diameter and 12 feet in height, with original baluster posts, curved railing sections, and central spindle column included. Layers of historic black and red paint remain, offering a surface patina that tells its century-old story.
We have included many pictures for your consideration, including 4 pictures of the staircase as it was prior to being dismantled in 2019.
Whether reinstalled as a working stair or displayed as a sculptural focal point, this rare find embodies the Industrial Gothic aesthetic — functional, spiritual, and profoundly architectural.
