Vintage Change-O-Matic Industrial Storage Cabinet

New York Industrial Storage Tower with Aged Turquoise Finish

A rare and unusually sculptural industrial storage cabinet retaining its aged turquoise finish, numbered “Change-O-Matic” labels, and evidence of decades of honest use.

Not sure where this beauty was manufactured but it appears to have been in service in Manhattan.  Change-O-Matic of New York City, with surviving labels marked “1770 Second Ave., New York, N.Y.,” this narrow vertical cabinet likely served within a coin-operated, vending, maintenance, or institutional environment during the mid-20th century.

The cabinet features a series of locking drop-front compartments opening into a full-height perforated steel interior fitted with fixed shelving. The proportions are exceptional — tall and narrow with strong architectural presence while maintaining a compact footprint suitable for modern interiors.

The current turquoise finish was applied during the cabinet’s working life and has since developed a remarkable aged surface and patina. Areas of the original industrial grey remain visible on the reverse and interior, revealing layers of use and maintenance accumulated over decades.

Surface wear throughout including scratches, oxidation, paint loss, and localized rust-through concentrated near the lower edges from long-term environmental exposure. We have intentionally left the cabinet in untouched found condition, preserving the atmosphere and visual character that make authentic industrial pieces increasingly difficult to source.

Vintage industrial steel cabinet with aged overpaint and significant wear consistent with age and use including scratches, oxidation, paint loss, and localized rust-through near the lower edges. Original grey industrial finish remains visible on portions of the reverse and interior surfaces. Structurally solid with exceptional patina and visual presence. There are no keys for the unit or the old padlock.
