Spanish Renaissance Revival Leather Library Chairs – Pair

Richly patinated leather, hand-carved hardwood frames and timeless Spanish craftsmanship come together in this striking pair of Spanish Renaissance Revival library chairs. Designed to be lived with rather than simply admired, these substantial armchairs possess the warm character and honest wear that only decades of use can create.

Each chair is upholstered in thick vegetable-tanned leather, beautifully aged to a warm cognac tone and secured with oversized hand-set upholstery tacks. The high backs feature an embossed decorative medallion depicting a pair of stylized dolphins flanking a scallop shell—a classic Renaissance motif long associated with the decorative arts of Spain and the Mediterranean. One medallion retains much of its original hand-painted colour, while the other has mellowed naturally over time, giving the pair a wonderfully authentic, collected appearance.

The carved hardwood frames are equally impressive. Bold scrolling arms and restrained foliate carving strike a balance between traditional Spanish design and clean architectural lines, making these chairs feel just as comfortable in a contemporary interior as they would in a historic home.

These are true lounge or library chairs with generous proportions, well suited to a fireside setting, reading room, wine cellar, boutique hotel or designer residence.

The original leather upholstery remains in remarkably good vintage condition with the expected patina, surface wear and character acquired over many decades. The seat webbing has relaxed and should be replaced before regular use. The chairs are being offered as found, allowing the next owner to decide whether to preserve their untouched authenticity or undertake sympathetic restoration.
