Rococo Revival Carved Marble Fireplace Mantel (c. 1860–1890)
Rococo Revival Carved Marble Fireplace Mantel (c. 1860–1890)
SKU: SG-ROCOCO-MNTL-01
A spectacular Rococo Revival carved marble fireplace mantel, dating to the late 19th century (circa 1860–1890), salvaged from a grand Victorian interior located in the Rosedale neighbourhood of Toronto, ON. Hand-carved in luminous white marble, the surround features deeply sculpted scallop shells, acanthus leaves, floral sprays, scrollwork, bead molding, and the signature undulating Rococo profile.
This exuberant decorative language draws on the French Louis XV / Rococo tradition, reinterpreted during the Victorian era with greater scale and dramatic relief. The mantel shelf—original to the piece—retains the typical elegant, slender silhouette found in 19th-century marble mantels, allowing the carving to remain the focal point.
A rare statement piece ideal for period restorations, boutique hospitality spaces, or modern interiors that celebrate history, craftsmanship, and quiet luxury.
