Pair of 19th Century Cast Iron Lions of St. Marc Reliefs | Gilt Framed Architectural Salvage

This striking pair of cast iron reliefs depicts the iconic Winged Lion of St. Marc—symbol of Venice and emblem of wisdom, power, and justice. Salvaged from a Chicago building circa 1860, these 19th-century fragments offer both sculptural presence and architectural provenance.

Each lion is rendered in deep relief with remarkable detail: outstretched feathered wings, flowing mane, and a paw resting on a scroll—hallmarks of the Venetian style. Framed in custom gilt shadowboxes, these panels present beautifully whether wall-mounted or displayed on easels.

Condition:
Very good overall with surface wear and patina consistent with age and origin. One relief has an old break near the wing edge, now stabilized and secure within the frame.
