Salvaged from an Ottawa church, this substantial six-panel pine door retains traces of its original faux oak graining beneath later church-era paint layers, creating a beautifully layered surface rich with age and character.
The proportions are exceptional at over 42 inches wide and nearly 84 inches high, giving the door a strong architectural presence well beyond that of a typical residential interior door. Deeply recessed panels, substantial 1.75" thick construction, original spring-loaded hinge hardware, and aged metal pull hardware all contribute to the unmistakable feel of institutional craftsmanship from the early 20th century.
The surviving faux bois treatment remains especially visible across several panels, where the hand-painted grain work still catches the light beneath decades of use and overpainting. The finish tells the story of the building it came from rather than hiding it.
