Early 1920s Hope’s Steel Windows — Matching Collection of 30 Salvaged Industrial Windows
Early 1920s Hope’s Steel Windows — Matching Collection of 30 Salvaged Industrial Windows
An increasingly rare opportunity to acquire a large matching collection of authentic Hope’s steel windows dating to the early 1920s.
Salvaged from a Southern Ontario home that was built in 1923, this remarkable group includes thirty matching steel windows featuring the impossibly slender sight lines and refined proportions that continue to make Hope’s one of the most respected steel window manufacturers in North America today.
The collection includes a combination of fixed and operable examples, with operable windows retaining their original brass handles, closers, and operating hardware. Unlike later industrial steel sash, these earlier Hope’s windows possess a lighter and more architectural presence — equally suited to contemporary interiors, hospitality projects, garden structures, studios, wineries, and thoughtfully designed cottage additions.
At a century old, the windows carry the kind of authentic wear and patina that simply cannot be replicated. Layers of old paint, subtle oxidation, historic glazing character, and evidence of long use contribute to their appeal and architectural integrity.
The windows are currently being carefully detailed in-house to remove remaining wood slats, nails, and surface debris from the salvage process while preserving their original character. Some windows retain cracked or missing panes consistent with age and salvage. Overall condition across the collection is very good for windows of this era.
Hope’s continues manufacturing steel windows in Jamestown, New York today, with comparable new custom windows often costing thousands of dollars per opening — making surviving early examples increasingly sought after by architects, designers, and restoration-minded clients.
Also available separately are a number of matching original screens and interior storm windows, many retaining their original wavy glass. These accompanying pieces offer exceptional opportunities for restoration-minded buyers seeking a more complete and historically layered installation. Availability and pricing upon request.
