Large Department of National Revenue Building Plaque — Bilingual Bronze Sign
Large Department of National Revenue Building Plaque — Bilingual Bronze Sign
A monumental two-sided bronze building plaque from Canada’s Department of National Revenue — the federal agency established in 1927 and later renamed Revenue Canada in 1999. One side reads “Department of National Revenue”; the reverse, “Ministère des Douanes et de l’Accise.”
Both sides feature engraved lettering originally filled with black resin or pitch — traces of which remain visible on the English side — while portions were later touched up with black paint over time. The surface carries a beautiful, time-earned patina that highlights the craftsmanship and gravitas of mid-century civic signage.
A rare bilingual artifact representing Canada’s national identity and design heritage. Perfect as a statement piece for collectors, designers, or institutions preserving public history.
