A substantial antique printer's imposing table, or composing table, originally designed for the demanding work of the printing trade. With its solid stone working surface, heavy timber construction and beautifully worn black finish, this remarkable piece brings authentic industrial character to a contemporary interior.

Measuring an impressive 60 inches long, the table features a single-piece, 2-inch-thick stone top resting on a robust timber frame. Decades of use have left their mark in the form of scratches, rubbed finishes, ink stains and exposed wood, creating a wonderfully textured surface that speaks to its working history.

Below the top, original metal runners support removable wooden shelves, offering practical storage and interesting possibilities for customization. The open framework could potentially accommodate custom-built drawers or sliding storage trays, allowing the next owner to adapt the piece to their particular needs.

An exceptional candidate for a kitchen island, the table would be equally at home in a design studio, creative workspace, retail environment or hospitality setting. Its generous proportions, 37-inch working height and strong architectural presence make it a compelling alternative to conventional cabinetry.

The stone top has shifted slightly from its original alignment and is being offered as found. Realignment would require the temporary removal of a side brace and is best undertaken by the purchaser or their installer as part of any planned customization.

The table retains its original character, including extensive surface wear consistent with its age and industrial use. We have deliberately chosen not to restore or alter the finish.

The lamp is the perfect accoutrement to my Great, Grandfather’s roll top desk. I’m the 4 th generation in my family to labour away on its planks.
