Antique Oak Glazed Pantry Door with Original Brass Hardware & Mechanical Bell Pull
Antique Oak Glazed Pantry Door with Original Brass Hardware & Mechanical Bell Pull
33.75" W x 81" H x 1.75" Thick
A handsome late Victorian glazed interior door retaining its original brass hardware, mortise lock, and mechanical bell pull. Salvaged from an Eastern Ontario home, this solid wood exterior door features a large single-pane glazed opening above a raised lower panel, allowing light to pass between rooms while maintaining separation and privacy.
The warm patina, original finish, and substantial construction suggest quarter-sawn oak, a favourite material of builders at the turn of the twentieth century. The oversized beveled glass opening gives the door an airy presence, making it an ideal choice for a pantry, butler's pantry, home office, library, mudroom, or interior room divider.
Adding to its character is the original mechanical bell pull, a charming reminder of a time before electric doorbells became commonplace. The original brass escutcheons, knob, and mortise lock remain in place, offering an increasingly uncommon level of authenticity for a door of this age.
At some point in its history the bottom rail was extended, likely to accommodate changes in flooring or a new opening. The modification is well integrated and speaks to the practical evolution of an old house rather than detracting from the door's appeal.
Whether incorporated into a period restoration or used as a focal point in a contemporary interior, this is a beautifully proportioned architectural element with over a century of history behind it. A wonderful statement door.
