Antique Jacobean Revival Armchair with Carved Crest
Antique Jacobean Revival Armchair with Carved Crest
A late 19th to early 20th century Jacobean Revival armchair with a commanding profile and deeply carved details throughout.
The chair features a high upholstered back framed by a sculptural crest rail with foliate carving, flanked by scroll-form arms with shaped hand grips. The structure is grounded by turned legs and stretchers, a hallmark of 17th century English influence, reinterpreted during the revival period for comfort and everyday use.
A carved side panel with grape motif adds a subtle layer of ornament—an old-world detail that speaks to craftsmanship and symbolism without overwhelming the form.
This is a chair that reads as more than seating. It holds space. Ideal in a study, bedroom corner, or as a single accent in a pared-back interior.
Condition:
Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear.
- Evidence of a past repair to one front support below the armrest (solid and stable)
- Arms would benefit from tightening/gluing at the joint where they meet the back
- Upholstery is later and remains clean and usable
Structurally sound overall, with the opportunity for minor refinement or full reupholstery depending on preference.
Dimensions:
25" W x 19" D x 43.25" H
Notes:
A versatile piece that can be used as-is or reimagined through upholstery. The carved frame carries the value—everything else is optional.
