The exceptionally thick, heavy plate glass retains extensive age-related deterioration to the original silvering, creating a layered, softly distressed surface that simply cannot be replicated in new glass.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe mirror is framed in moulded wood with an old painted finish and considerable wear, including areas of paint loss, chips, marks and exposed earlier finishes. We have intentionally left both the frame and mirror plate as found.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIts original setting is unknown, but the sheer scale suggests a mirror made for a substantial interior — perhaps a hotel, restaurant, retail establishment or large private residence. Today, it would make a remarkable architectural statement in a dining room, entrance hall, commercial space, restaurant or hotel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDespite the extensive ageing of the silvering, the mirror remains highly reflective. Depending on the light and surroundings, areas of deterioration become more or less pronounced, giving the glass an ever-changing character.
